What does it mean to be a real man in 21st century?
'Real man' is something that males made up long ago to feel even more manly, as being born as a man isn't manly enough. However, term 'real man' is starting to become more and more meaningless as a time flows. Nowadays not many people think of humans in terms of real woman or real man. Genders became equal and now 'real man' is used only in reference to "macho alfa" type of person and rather in sarcastic way. There's no real and only one type of being something, and so there's no possibility of being a real man because such a thing doesn't exist.
Oh I wish people used the phrase just sarcastically! Unfortunately, this is not the case. I often hear parents talking to their sons in this way ('Man up' Don't cry like a baby/ a girl!') or people talking to other men ('What sort of man are you? You aren't even interested in football / don't buy flowers for your wife', etc.)
OdpowiedzUsuńyep, 'real men' is someone who you can't define, everyone can think of someone else as the ideal of 'real men' so there's no true one.
